Rather than add this post to my last post, I though more ppl would take notice of this lil idea of mine..

I've had problems with running SOF2 with XP Pro and a GF 3 - for some reasons levels would just crash out, leaving me back at the desktop with a strange palette that will not go away.

The patch.. which managed to totally cock things up, and made matters worse - crashing everytime I died in the game. (the RESTART menu.)

Although - this time when it crashed out - even after a total reset the computer the game would start in the same strange palette. not sure why.. perhaps it was flagging somewhere that it must start in 16 bit colours even though the game was set to 32. (it wouldnt even make a difference if you reset the colour mode from 32 back to 16, and then again to 32)

Some Answers !...

To get the palette back, I found out that I could do it just by resetting the game options back to the default options.

After some more playing about, BY "TURNING OFF THE GENERIC EXTENTIONS" - the game would work fine without any crashing.

Although slower..(in the bridge, really slow) - but without any problems what-so-ever.

So from now on, I'll be playing the game with this option turned off (and putting up with the slowness) until raven can sort things out.

Perhaps it might give you guys some ideas....

Personally, being a 3d programmer myself - my money is on a texture problem. Perhaps the set of drivers Raven developed on are different to the ones we all now use. It's certainly an OpenGL extension problem of sorts !.

Hope my experiences help.. (worth a try)

For most of the development we used the latest dev drivers which are available to us a month or so before their official release... although with the way they leak they aren't too hard to get hold of.

I can't find your original post could you list your system specs again please?

Pretty much all extensions can be turned on and off individually; it's most likely one that's causing the problem. I'd be curious to know which one it is...

ok..

AMD ATHLON 2100XP+, 1024 Megs DDR 333 RAM (2 x 512), Soltek Motherboard, Asus GF 3, XP Pro..

I dont have any problems what-so-ever with Jedi 2 (and I dont play the patched version).

I was originally using the DETON. 29.42 drivers, but are now onto the 29.80 (beta) - just to see if it helped. (it didnt)

Like I've originally said... it only use to happen on certain levels - everything was fine up to the heli evac level in the jungle, then it would crash out, when it felt like it.

But with the patch.. everytime I get the restart menu !.

Still, at least now I can carry on playing the game - although a little slower than it should be.

BTW - I didnt realise that I could deselect the limited saves option, now I've got quite far in the game - I don't want to have to start again. is there a way to fool it into thinking I can save a few more times ? (perhaps deleting a couple of the saved games ? - unless its also saved in a cfg or reg setting)

Thanks Anyway.
Paul.
