Hi guys,

Just a quick explanation before I go ahead with my questions...

I used to map for COD2 ages back when COD2 was at its peak but with one thing or another I had to give it up. Before I stopped mapping I had half built a level which I held on to until I could finish it but unfortunately the map got destroyed due to a HDD crash so I'm starting again from memory now I've got some time to map again.

In my old map I used quite a few triggers to trigger events such as a radio playing in a room.. triggers which would shut doors and seal you in rooms etc..

I've come to use triggers again to do the same and I seem to be having some difficulty.

Heres my problem....

I want to set up a trigger which trips a radio to play.
The radio or source is in another room on a lower level of the map but I want to trigger the radio to start before the player gets there.

Everytime I've moved the trigger out of the area where the sound source is (radio) the trigger stops working and I can't figure it out. My best guess is that the trigger needs to be near the source for some reason but I'm sure I remember doing this in my old map without a problem.

I've got the trigger to work and the sound to play but I just can't move the trigger outside of the audible zone if you like.
I want it to sound like the radio was always playing before a player enters the area rather than start when he or she does.

Believe it or not but it took me an entire day to get that one sound to work lol... Well I say to get it to work, it was working but the trigger wouldn't work outside of the sound source area so I "thought" it wasn't working LMFAO

when the trigger was outside the "sound source area" was it being touched by any brushes or any other triggers? sometimes if you have your trigger overlapping through a brush it will sometimes work and sometimes not, same if it was overlapping with another trigger. sometimes work sometimes not. their should be no reason why the trigger isnt working inside another room unless like i said above its being overlapped by another trigger or brush.

Thanks for replying :)

I'll double check that when I work on my map later.. I never even thought about that to be honest. I know that the trigger was laying on top of the floor for the player to walk over and the trigger was at least sitting directly on to of the floor brush but I'm not sure if there was any accidental overlap. Ill try drawing a new trigger but this time around I'll completely raise it off the floor and shrink it so it's not touching any walls or doorways and see how that goes.

I'll report back with my results later :)

Just to say thanks again liltc64...

Although there was no overlap, it seems that the trigger just touching or laying on top of the floor was enough to screw it up so I set Radiant to the smallest grids possible and just shifted it up away from any other brushes by a tiny amount.

The trigger now works like a charm on the upper floor :)

Would never have sussed that out without the help so many thanks m8!

I was even starting to suspect it was some quirky behaviour from win 7.
When I used to map I used win XP (as we all did back then) and I had no trouble. Even the dots used to show up for the light grid creation but they don't anymore :S I just "guess" where I've been when creating my grid file now lol.
