Hi again,

I'm getting tired of using the same old sounds which came along with q4, so I tried to add a few songs and other sounds (I converted them into .ogg files and wav files with the same bit rate and frequence used in the game) - anyway it didn't work...why's that so?!

how did you replace them? they are packed in the game files. Did you also convert them to be mono and not much longer than what was there? Did you read the console after testing them to see if there was an error? Did you hear anything at all in your tests?

no I just created a folder named 'sound' in my q4base, then I converted the sounds into the same file type like the original sounds - I didnt replace anything (I've converted them in stereo mode).
When I browse my sounds directories in the editor, I can find them but when I press 'play' I just hear that default beep tone

Here are some notes:

Valid sound files are 1 or 2 channel, 16 bit OGG or WAV files at 11025, 22050 or 44100 Hz

custom sounds are often located in a folder located within the sounds folder. I recommend that you extract the original sound to the proper directory (because winzip will create the directory structure on extract) and then modify that sound.

Make sure the sounds are replacements and not new sounds. Otherwise you need to add them to a sounds file (usually).

Check out this video tutorial for the custom sound editor: http://files.filefront.com/Doom3_SoundEditor_Vid_Tutorial/;4297958;/fileinfo.html

That tone you hear means that the game either can't play the audio or it can't find the audio. check the console for the correct error.

There is some useful information here too:
