You Shouldnt Turn On Dmz Hosting Ever, Jus Use Port FOrwarding If u Need Certain Ports Open... DMz hosting opens all your ports and thats not good.

is it possible to host a game from one comp behind a router and join it from comps out side and inside???

when i host games for my mates it slows my comp down, so i could run a dedicated server on my laptop and join it from my desktop???

As long as +set dedicated 2 is in the command line, it should show up locally and to the internet, provided the correct port is opened in the firewall. See the Server Admin forum for more....

This is a known issue with Quake 3 engine games and NAT devices (such as hardware routers). If the server "sees" two connections from the same IP and port, it will either not allow the second connection, or it will boot the first connection.

I don't think its in "issue with Quake 3 engine games and NAT devices"... you get the problem with Counter-Strike (i.e. HL) and i'm sure other games have similar problems... I may be wrong here but it seems logical to me that if two computers are using the same IP and Port to connect to a server, how is the server going to know which computer is which? It needs to know which computer its receiving data from so he knows which player is moving where, etc... So in order to differentiate the two computers each one has to use a different port. Which port number they are using is irrevalent as long as they are different.

As I stated earlier, Half-Life had this problem with Linksys routers, but it was fixed in a later firmware. I was the one who sent the "+clientport 27006" information for HL to Tim Higgins because at the time it was necessary to do that. I'll just leave it at that it never hurts to use different ports.  ;)

Just a dumb question on this...

If I use my cdkey on both systems, will it ban my cd key?  or do i need to go purchase another copy of the game to have 2 online connections from 1 IP.

Thanks.
