Having been a long time member of Modsonline I thought I would post about the Americas Army Proving Grounds editors. Hopefully this will spurn budding mappers to get into Mapping for AA:PG.
AA:PG is the latest instalment of the Americas Army franshise. In our opinion it is the best in the series so far. When I say 'our opinion' - Our clan 'pacificgamers.co.nz' plays it every night. It has replaced COD and other games we used to play. Although we still have a strong Arma2:OA and Arma3 segment.
The gameplay is a great cross of COD, Battlefield and of course AA. You have limited weapons but as the team play is great, tactics awesome and killing strategic...You don't notice. There are Steam rewards but no 'Ranking Up' in game or 'Perks' to give the other team/play an advantage. When you go down you can be revived by team mate unless killed by headshot. When you kill an enemy you zip tie them so they cant be revived. There are several modes of game play...Simply put it is highly enjoyable.
For a FREE game on steam. EVERYONE should be playing it.
Now that they have released the EDITING TOOLS it many maps are being made.
I've always wanted to learn to map in the UDK engine but have never really had the need to. Now that this tools have been released for AA:PG and this is one of our clans most played games. There is a cause!
So far I have created five maps. Currently I am remaking all the COD4 maps as a training platform. I am getting the maps playable and will go back through and finalise all at a later date.
Maps are compiled easily and uploaded into the Steam Workshop. This makes it easy to update a map with new changes or fixes.
Maps I have made so far.
1) PAC Shipment
2) PAC Carentan
3) PAC Vacant
4) PAC Bog
5) PAC Killhouse
The Killhouse map has a video and screenshots.
Currently I am working on
- PAC Showdown and
- PAC Overgrown.
Once I have finished all the COD maps we want to play. I will start on many of the mapping ideas I have and uncompleted projects I started for COD.
With each map I learn something new and am thoroughly enjoying mapping again. It is really so much easier than mapping for COD but there is still a learning curve!
ie like with PAC BOG, I broke the lighting...current version it is all messed up but hope to have this fixed in a few days.
The AA:PG Dev team are working to bring more assets to the editor. More maps are being made and release each day. Some are very well down - many need more tendercare.
Hope many of you mappers will come join us if you haven't already.
Any chance of a AA:PG section in the forums?
I did search the forums for any AAPG discussions but it seemed to take ages and didn't find anything.
