I was planning on applying to Treyarch, Infinity Ward, and SledgeHammer this week (actually later today) since my graduation in mid-June... was thinking of applying at Respawn too but a programming test sounds kind of intimidating now for a (hopefully) aspiring/would-be scripter. Programming test seems like something I'd expect for someone applying for an engineer position to do to test their low-level programming ability. I'm rusty at low level compared to high level scripting.

Ah well, I'll try anyway, worst thing that can happen is they say no / I bombed the test. I probably don't have much of a chance to even get a reply since SP maps aren't as big of a landmark as MP mods. o.0

Anyway, good stuff Demon. Thanks for the reply.

He is pretty old Matty, surprised they took him on really what with his zimmer-frame and all.

Just remember Demon, I expect royalties, you know I helped you get there, what with all the help I gave you.... oh wait that's right you were the one helping me [thumbs_up]

Congratulations!

Hehe, I only ask because im 19, and I guess he is something to aspire too ;)

LMAO.

Matt - I am 51 this year. I would think you would have plenty of other "heros" to aspire to other than this old timer. Paulo88 for example, who just got a job at Treyarch from the community, is one such "youngster" (he is only in his early 20's I believe) you should aspire to rather than me.

This is what makes the gaming industry so great - young or old, formal qualifications or not (I do actually have a BSc in Computer Science, but that isnt really necessary in all cases), you can get a job in it if you are talented. It is truely remarkable when you think that all of the developers who worked at IW are now millionaires, so it certainly isnt a "little boys who never grew up" job (as my wife used to think) - there is a lot of money to be made in it.

Awesome. I start my degree in Computer Game Programming in September, at Teesside University, so after that I will start looking around for jobsies!!

You had to sit an exam? Wow, I always thought you would have to do something like that tbh, pretty intense stuff.

What sorta stuff did they ask? Haha

It was a standard game programming interview exam, and most of it was pretty familiar stuff, but one or two questions were just not the sort of thing you expect or remember well from your Uni studies - stuff like "what is a dot product and what is it used for?" This is pure trig math and it came completely left field for me.

Ah yes dot products. Lots of good uses for those. But every time I use them I have to look stuff up. [crazy]
