Taxing Measures

Star Locke doesn't like violent video games. He ranks them up there with abortion and soft drinks and as a running platform for governor in Texas, he wants to see them taxed.

"So our concept is that we need to tax things we don't want and you want to not tax things that you want to encourage."

This translates to a 50% tax on all violent video games, among other things.

SG1 Cancelled Again

Word on the net is that Stargate SG1 has been cancelled again. First we had JoWood step up last year and state the the game was cancelled. Then Perception announced that they are the actual license owners of the game and that it was not cancelled. Then Namco was heard to be on the development of the game. A Game with no Story

Buzzscope has an article by David Rodriquez that discusses the over abundance of cutscenes in games. He is disgusted that the time spent playing a game is nothing more than a means to get from one cutscene to another.

PC games we can expect in 2006

Darsana

Here's a new game in production that could turn into something big. Darsana is a free, stand alone game. Built on an RPG engine, it's a midieval FPS game for multiplayer action. The game is still in production and looking for more people to help out. Check out what they have going on so far.

NIMF and ESRB Go At It

Geez, this would make a great MODSonair topic. Check this out...

The National Institute for Media and Family sent out report cards to the game industry for the 10th year. While alot of areas sch as retailers all got D- grades, anything related to ESRB received F grades for such things as the accuracy of ratings.

Valve's Next - A Sim Game?

Robin Walker of Valve recently mentioned in an interview that the Valve may be working on a game that isn't a FPS or an action game at all. That they want to build what sounds like a sim game or what they term as "cooperative building games".
