Counter-Strike: Source Beta Starts

Today Cyber Cafés get to start pre-loading the Counter-Strike: Source beta. Doug Lombardi informs us that on Wednesday, the first phase of the beta will open and the game will be playable at all cyber cafes that subscribe to the Valve Cyber Café Program. Later on this month, owners of Condition Zero will get to try their hand at this beta as well. Also, those with a HL2 Voucher from ATI who enter their CD-Key into the Steam program will also be eligible.

Duct Tape Mod

Awesome mods are coming. Here's a perfect tool for the game going by the name of Duct Tape Mod. As it stands now, you have to select either the flashlight or a weapon when feeling your way around in the dark halls of the game. That can result in some difficult times when you are stuck with a flashlight in hand instead of your trusty sidearm.

Doom III Support in GTKRadiant

Doom 3 support in GTKRadiant is fairly likely to happen, as it is the shortest path to bring editing capability to the Linux and Mac versions. Remember that we are always looking for new contributors for GtkRadiant :-)

Beta Drivers for Doom 3 Performance

ATI has released a public beta of their next drivers release, CATALYST 4.9. This was released in order to help those who need more performance for Doom 3, but they are not supported and as the site says, "ATI does NOT recommend installing these drivers in systems used for mission critical operations or where productivity of any kind is a concern."

PCi Express Motherboard/Graphics Solutions

In a press release yesterday, nVidia announced that their partners will be marketing PCi Express motherboards with grahpics solutions in a combo to further the advances in cinematic-quality multimedia experiences. They are marketing their GPUs with partners AOpen Inc., ASUSTeK, Gigabyte Technology, and MSI.

“Gamers and enthusiasts will find this unique opportunity too good to pass up,” said Jeremy Liaw, Senior Manager, Multimedia Department at MSI.
