Last week, hackers said they had fooled an Xbox 360 into running a copied version of Project Gotham Racing 3 by modifying the DVD drive firmware, which was apparently left relatively unprotected, so that it sidestepped an authentication routine. BF2: Euro Force is the first of two upcoming booster packs from EA for the ever-popular Battlefield 2 PC game. Taking a page from Valve's book, EA is selling this booster pack only as a download via their EA downloader system. Personally, I don't mind the downloader as it saves me a trip to the local Best Buy to purchase the game.... [ There's more ]

Loren Velthamp of Chanhassen, Minnesota, said he grabbed the phone and called 911 when he realized a fire has started in his home. "I called 911 using Vonage broadband and they put us on hold," Velthamp told KSTP-TV in Minneapolis. “Unbelievable… your house is burning down, and you're put on hold by Vonage.”

IDEMA, the International Disk Drive, Equipment, and Materials Association, has announced the results of an industry committee assembled to identify a new and longer sector standard for future magnetic hard disk drives (HDDs).
