Cod4 Custom main menu background/music Tutorial – Created by: Electabledork

Okay in this tutorial I am going to show you how to make a custom menu. I have provided some files to help you out. Now for this mod I will be using the x4v2 mod.  You must have photoshop to do this.
First you need to download the converter, and the .dds plugin for photoshop here are the links to dl them.

Converter

Plugin

second thing you want to do is download the files, these aren’t needed to make it however it will be much easier to use them.

Download

Next you want to extract the menu and music folders to your desktop.

Custom Music

Now the music part is simple, Just pick your favorite mp3! It must be an mp3.
Rename the mp3 file to  HGW_gameshell_v10  Then place it in the music folder.

Then open up your mods .iwd file (for x4v2 it’s the z_x4.iwd in your x4 mod folder)

navigate to the sound folder(if your mod doesn’t have a sound folder just make one)

once at this screen place the music folder inside the sound folder
and you should have custom music on your menu.

Menu Background

Now for the background, open the menu file that was in the archive you downloaded.
You should see a bg_front2.psd

Open this file, you should see something like this –

Ok now the black line is where you go off screen, well where I go off screen it may vary depending on your monitor. So click the background layer and paste your background pic in.

Now if you want you can add a custom logo, just click the logo layer , paste and position.

Once that is done delete the “End of screen” layer. Now the most important thing you must do is flatten the image. Do this by right clicking one of the layers and select flatten image.

That should merge the layers and lock the image.
Now click save as, and save it as bg_front2.dds this must be a dds file.

When it looks like this click save, then a box like this will pop up –

Make sure it looks like this, Save format should be Interpolated Alpha{DTX5}, and the MIP maps should be set to No MIP maps.
You should have a bg_front2.dds file where ever you saved it to. Drag this into your ddstoiwi converter.
Now you should have bg_front2.iwi file
Now go back to your x4.iwi you worked with during the music part and place the bg_front2.iwi into the images folder.

Now you should have a custom menu.

Like so –
