HyPeR's Cod2 Mapping tutorial (Beginners)
Versions: You must be logged in to view history.

This tutorial was written to help out the new mapper by explaining what the basic files required are and what they do when ingame to help you have a better knowledge of mapping in Call of Duty 2.

The tutorial includes descriptions, instructions, and an image which you will need in order to create and successfully run a map!

1.Cod2Radiant (Cod2 mapping tool) - This is needed to actually create the map

2. .map file - This file is the map itself.  It is made with the Radiant program and can be edited with notepad.  Do not include this in your IWD unless you want people to be able to edit your map.  Im serious about this.

3. .d3dbsp - This is the compiled version of the map, ready to be played in CoD2, after packed first.

4. .iwd file - This will be needed so that you can run your map on Call of Duty 2 for testing and to play on servers with. The .iwd file is a zip where you will put the compiled .map (.d3dbsp) in maps/mp, and any additional files, i.e. sound, scripts. It is recommended you use WinZip, WinRAR, or simply renaming the mapname.zip file (with all the component of the map) to maname.iwd.

5. .gsc file - This file is optional.  It can be used for adding extra commands to your map, like a moving platform or changing the teams.

6. .arena file - This will make your map show up on the Start a New Server map list, or show up in voting.  Please note, that while its recommended you have this file, it is not required.

Here is what the IWD file should look like.
