Adding a moving sky to your map.
Thanks to DarkOne for the work put into this tutorial.

So lets say you made your first sky already but its too plain, and you want to spice it up.
How about a moving sky? That should do the trick right?

Lets get to it.

1. First lets make a box by right clicking your builder block on the left side and giving it these settings : Height 512, Width 512, breadth 512, then clicking the build button.
Set the block wherever you see fit and click the subtract button when your ready.
now you should see a room with the default texture.

2. lets move the builder block out of the way so we can work easier.

3. Now we need to add texture to your room so open your texture browser and choose AWcity.
Once awcity opens choose the subcatagory of sky.

ok now we need to highlight the brushes before we add the texture

4. so CTRL+LMB(LMB=left mouse button) on one of the walls to highlight it.
next hit SHIFT+B to highlight all 6 brushes at once.

now that all the walls are highlighted lets go to our texture browser and choose the texture awstarfield3a. it looks like stars. All of your walls and floors should have now changed to this texture.

5. While they are still highlighted lets right click on a wall and choose surface properties.
under flags choose unit. when u add an actor it will see this brush unit and know its going to have special instructions.

6. now choose the pan/rot/scale tab. go to scaling and go to the first line which should say simple next to it.
drop it down and choose 1.0 and hit apply. Now your stars should be a bit bigger and look much better.

Ok now that thats done. on to the next step. Stars by themselves look way too plain still huh? How about we add a planet, a nebula, and a big moon? Yeah...that will spice it up pretty good.

7. OK on the left theres the builder section, we will be using the sheet one this time.
right click on the sheet builder and choose 128 height, 128 width and choose build.

8. now you have a flat builder block. put it wherever you like. You can reference my map included in the zip if you like.i put mine on an angle and in the corner for a better effect. (well atleast i think it looks better that way)

If you want to do that simply hold right click while builder brush is highlighted and move your mouse. do this from all 3 3d windows to get it just right to your likings.

9. When your ready this time we don't hit the subtract button but we hit the add button, but before you do that you have to choose your texture. scroll through the awcity and you will see some planets, nebulas and moons.
choose whichever you want to use first. once chosen click the add button.

10. Now move the builder brush out of the way and right click the brush and go to surface properties.

11. Go to flags and choose unit.(remember its part of the sky and the actor needs to know this)next go to pan/rot/scale, and to scaling and choose the simple scaling and choose .125 and press apply.

you can play with those to make the brush face bigger or smaller, depending on the texture and size of the brush.

12. OK add another planet, nebula,or moon till you get the look you want. (dont forget the sky will move so add them on all sides evenly, including the floor because you will see it as it rolls.)
(And dont forget the sky and all planets have to have the unit flag checked under surface properties.)

OK now you have your sky and all your planets added the way you like, so its time we add the actor to make it a sky and tell it what to do.

13. on the top menu bar choose the actor browser and go to info/zoneinfo/skyzoneinfo/rockingskyzoneinfo. highlight rockingskyzoneinfo and minimize the actor browser.

14. now right click in the exact middle of your sky and choose add rockingskyzoneinfo here and click it.

15. Make sure its centered from all 3 windows. Next we will right click the rockingskyzoneinfo and choose rockingskyzoneinfo properties.

• first goto the movement catagory and drop it down by clicking on the + sign next to it.
• next find bFixedRotation and set it to true. do this by clicking on it and pulling down the drop window and selecting true.
• Next find the Physics setting and click on it. drop down the drop window and choose PHYS_Rotating.
• The final setting here is RotationRate. click on that and set these settings:
  • pitch 512
  • roll 256
  • yaw 32
ok thats it for the sky itself, now onto the player area.

16. Off to the side of the skyzone you just made we will make where our player will battle. Yup the sky isnt even where you play, weird huh?

make a room 102H4x1024Wx1024B and subtract it.

17. Add the texture of whatever to it it really dont matter because you wont see it anyways.
highlight all 6 sides and add the texture u chose.

18. next right click while all 6 sides are highlighted, and choose surface properties.
go to the flags section and choose fake backdrop.

ok thats done.

19. next right click the sheet builder make it 1024x1024 and press build. drag it to the middle of your area. now before we add this brush choose your ground texture.

Now that you have your ground texture chosen, hit the add button to add it to your level.

20. All thats left is making a wall if you want and adding a light and a player start, which can be chosen by right clicking at any time.

any ?'s feel free to E-Mail me and ill be glad to help ya out.
have fun and good luck.
