Three Common Mapping Errors
Versions: You must be logged in to view history.
Sparks points out three common mapping errors and how to solve them.
Why Is My Map Red?

More than likely, you forgot to add reflection probes into your map. You place these probes in key areas. and whichever the player is closest to (or ent is closest to), it will adapt to using that reflection probe.

A reflection probe basically takes "snap shots" (like pictures) of all six directions (up, down, left, right, forward, back). Then it will apply that environment map to any texture that has specularity, so the specularity of that texture matches the area. This goes for everything with specularity, like sniper scope lens or even characters. Pretty much everything has a specular pass

Why Doesn't My FX Show Up Properly?

If it looks like the above, you forgot to update your zone_source file. You should be able to easily click Update Zone Source on the compiler, and on the left column the missing FX asset should appear (if you ran the game with developer and developer_script on). Just copy and paste that to the right column in the Update Zone Source, save, and rebuild your FastFile.

Why Are There Weird Red Lines On The Screen?

You forgot to update your Zone Source File with an asset belonging to the player such as a weapon, viewsleeves, etc... Sometimes, the viewsleeves may not show up in the Build Zone Source left column, so you'll have to type in the right column manually:
ie
weapon,sp/mp5_silencer
xmodel,viewhands_black_kit

Save, and rebuild your FastFile.
