ROTATING DOORS

By baltic.forever

This short tutorial will teach you how to quickly create a door that will rotate when used.

Load map sp_tute_blank_map1 into the editor first. You can download it HERE

1. Place an "info_player_start" in the map.

2. click on "file" then "save as" and save the map as "sp_rotating_door"

3. Make a brush b units wide, 128 units tall, and 8 units thick (dimensions are in "grid units")

4. While you still have the brush selected, press "S" on the keyboard to bring up the surface inspector, and enter the following into the "texture" box at the top.

textures/hongkong/door3_single

5. Press the "Enter or Return" key, and you're texture should look like this (picture 1). If it doesn't, then use the "H Shift" and "V Shift" keys in the surface inspector until it does (picture 2) then click on "Done".

6. Press the number "2" on the keyboard to reduce the grid size in the 2d window. You may need to zoom in on the 2d window using the mouse's scroll button.

7. Create a brush 4 X 4 X 128 and place it halfway into the door where you want the doors hinges to be.

8. Click on "textures" at the top of the screen, and click on "tools". Once the tools have loaded into the editor (the window in the bottom right corner), select the one that says "Origin" (picture 3).

9. Make sure that the "Origin" brush is still selected then hold down the "shift" key on the keyboard, and left click on the door. Both brushes should now be highlighted.

10. Right click on the 2d window, and select "door_rotating". Press "N" on the keyboard, and select the following "spawnflag" boxes;

usable
auto_close
smart

That's the door taken care of. Now onto the walls.

1. Create three brushes that surround the doors.

2. Select all three brushes then press "S" on the keyboard and enter the following into the texture box.

texture/shop/cinderblock2

You're wall and doors should look something like this (picture 4). The walls have been highlighted, to show how they were set up.

There are other options that can be set. There is a brief description of each setting in the top window of the "Entity editor".

That's it. Just compile the map and start a single-player game. When the main screen appears, hold down the "shift" key and press "~" to bring down the console. Type in map sp_rotating_door and press the "Enter" key to load the map.
