Would you subscribe for a maps/projects backup utility and service?
Posted on Wed. Apr. 23, 2008

Would you be willing to subscribe to a service that comes with a utility to back up your maps or projects?

Too many times have I heard, "I lost my map" or "something was corrupted and I don't have an older version". Well, what if you had a utility that could back everything up at the touch of a button. Not only that, but it would store the backup online for you in case your hard drive fails.

I want to know if it's worth persuing this idea. So, please try and answer honestly. Later, we'll figure out how to offer subscriptions. However, since there is so much involved in such a program including storage fees, this idea would never work without a subscription fee... even if it were only $2.

I'd pay just about anything for that. 1.96%
If it was cheap enough I would. 3.92%
Only if it came with my MODSonline subscription. 6.86%
I can backup my own files. 82.35%
Why would I backup my files? 4.9%

To be totally honest, I can back up my own stuff. However it does have potential for people who arn't so confident in backing up or who don't have any other means of backing up.

It's a good service but just doesn't appeal to me individually.

Hey. You asked for honest answers [crazy]

Most people should be able to do there own backups. I generally have my map backed up in various places on my HD, every week or two i may stick it on a disk.

Nice idea but don't think it will appeal to some.

I think just about every pc out there has at least two harddrives right now... I personally have two harddrives and an external USB harddrive..
what would be more usefull is an app that would save the .map to multiple locations when hitting ctrl+s :P

Me, I would rather put updates on my site that way I can use a FTP program to access my folder to get it in a flash...

I think this would (as said by others) Be a useful utility for people who arnt so confident with backing stuff up.

But as most people are, i think a program more like what SporadiC said would be good, one that backs up your maps with a press of a Hotkey or automatically to multiple places and create it in different versions, E.G My_Map (Backup 1).map

Just my opionon thoe!

program suggestion
as someone before me said, Id prefer a special application to automatically save it into a new folder on a separate harddrive/usb device/ you get the picture. ex. create a very simple program that (like Xfire) starts when you hit a hotkey/combination. so if you hit ctrl+s, it brings up a small window that says "create backup files? yes, no". nothing too complicated for those on the site that are experienced in such areas. =)

I don't really need back-up space on internet.. Would be usefull for some though.. But I got 5 HD's in my pc where i can back them up to..[angryalien]

Would be a good investment for the site though, because some ppl would be very interested i think..[thumbs_up]
