Planetside Contraction

Posted by foyleman in Gaming News on Dec 3, 2003
Sony has plans to merge four of the current Planetside servers into two servers in an effort to "heighten the action" and I can't seem to stop myself from bringing up a few questions and points.

It sounds like Sony is telling it's customers, who pay good money to play this game each month, that they are going to take away part of their game. Does Sony see a future for this game? If the Planetside players wanted more action, wouldn't they just join the higher populated servers? And perhaps if the game were better, the servers would be more populated. Instead, they are throwing everyone into the same box to force the issue.

It sounds like this is a very poor solution to a problem that is only going to grow. Putting time into improving the game-play and maps would be smarter unless they don't see a future for this game.

If I am missing the point of Sony's efforts, please fill me in on where I have gone wrong. I would prefer to think that Sony really does care about us.
