E3 2011 Day One

Posted by foyleman in E3 Expo on Jun 8, 2011

Great first day for E3. I'd say it's back to the show it once was. Exciting things to see, huge show and booth babes everywhere.

I took the first day to get the lay of the lands here. The next couple of days I will focus a bit more on certain games. I did notice one big change around here is that more companies are dicouraging the direct recording of games. So what I have taken is what I'm getting. That is up to the point in which I was told to stop. lol.

I've been tweeting my initial thoughts on everything as I come across them. If you want to follow, check me out @foyleman or follow @modsonair as I seem to be retweeted there. Go figure.

Quick thoughts for you:

  • The show is big.. it's back to the E3 that I remember.
  • NOS energy drink is pushing hard on the street. You don't even have to be an attendee of the show to grab a free drink and enjoy some good tunes.
  • Activision isn't letting us play with anything. You can see it all online by now. (some things to hint on Sunday's MODSonair show)
  • The new PSP is changing its name to the Vita (come on Sony) and doesn't seem to be all that much different. I was expecting more. However I'm not waiting 4 hours to check it out hands on. I've just been looking over shoulders in this case.
  • The WiiU is another hyped console. I was not impressed. I might get impressed with future games, but it's not there yet. Hey.. It's not even released yet.
  • Hardware has been mostly unimpressive. Audio manufacturers don't have a great testing environment and the really good stuff is behind locked cases. I wanted to get my hands on the mini razor gaming platform. :(
  • Dead Island is another rendition of L4D (same co-op even). However, it plays slower with the feel of the Crytek engine. Possible mod support??? (They couldn't even tell me with any certainty).
  • Richochet is coming along nice. Still seems pretty beta but will have all the mod support you could want which is great to hear.
  • I've come across 2 developers in day one that have outright stated that MODSonline is one of the reasons they are developers today. That's the kind of thing that makes it worth the effort.

And for your viewing pleasure.. some quick pics can be seen here:
