I bring this to the news because it effects us all... in a wonderful way. HardOCP just wrote a preview about a new APEX gaming console that is more of an entertainment center than anything else. When reading the stats for this box, I can't help but think of a modded XBox.

instant on WinXP that isn't locked down (you can change it)
High Definition outputs
usb, ethernet, modem
DVD/CD, 40Gb drive (standard format)
plays PC games

It's basically a computer for under your TV only it's not going to break your wallet. Although pricing hasn't been announce (product announcement by APEX this Thursday), it's expected to run about $3-400 US.
