Latest News for Battlefield : 1942
Posted by on Dec. 18, 2006

Another patch for Battlefield 2142 on Tuesday. A few of the fixes will change the default server port to 17567, fix active camo and update most current PunkBuster client files.

Oh wait! Are those the fixes or new bugs? We'll, tomorrow we find out. (just kidding).

If you don't like the idea of IGA spying on you when you are playing Battlefield 2142, then there is a solution. I found this information here and am reposting it in case they close the topic.

If you run a local port scanner for outoging activity while playing the game, you will see some information heading out to 72.3.184.153:17475. This IP address resolves to IGA who is providing the in-game ads for BF2142. Simply block port 17475 on your router and or even the entire IP address range that is owned by IGA (72.3.184.144 - 72.3.184.159) and you're set.

IGA (IGA Technologies, LLC) is the advertising solution within Battlefield 2142 that some people are upset with because they are grabbing information about you during gameplay. Although the information is only suppose to be banner impression data and your IP address, not everyone trusts EA or IGA.

You can now get your mitts on the Battlefield Vietnam 1.01 Patch. It fixes a number of game issues but doesn't add anything new to the game. That's being saved for the next patch.

The next patch will offer a new map along with two new helicopters. You can read the details in the community update.

The Battlefield: 1942 series engine gets a serious update and Battlefield 2 is announced. IGN interviews producer Scott Evans to find out where this is going.

For example, the clumsy artillery feature in Battlefield 1942 is replaced by laser painting a target and another player guiding a missile along the beam.
The new engine accomplishes that goal by delivering a far greater degree of ambient world physics, material penetration modeling, a vehicle / character parts system, dynamic lighting effects, multi-texturing detail processes, normal mapping of characters and vehicles, ragdoll physics, a new terrain system, and many other features.

Trauma Studios is yet another example that if you make a good mod, with great support and work hard you can turn your hobby into a dream job. Trauma Studios built Desert Combat which is a modification for Battlefield 1942 and they just signed an agreement to work together on a "previously announced" DICE project. The cost allotment for this venture..... $550,000.

Patrick Söderlund, CEO, Digital Illusions, stated, “We understood the impact Desert Combat had quite early. This mod kept Battlefield's popularity in place during the last year, as well as helped us sell a considerable amount of games.”

Word on the wire is that there will be a console-only sequel for Battlefield 1942. This means that you may need to purchase and XBox or PS2 to get your mitts on this unannounced title. The same goes for a possible sequel in the works for Call of Duty. There is no named source on this info, but you can read more about it from IGN
