I'm getting this error when trying to compile a simple map for testing custom models. it only occurs when using custom models, which, have exported from maya fine, converted in Assett manager fine, show and can be placed in radiant fine.

There is nothing wrong with the topology of the model etc (not to blow my own trumpet but I am a pro 3D Games Artist), It happens with any custom model. Bit weird. Stops if I turn off compile lights but then map doesn't compile properly, hich I presume is to do with the cod2rad.exe?

I 'm at my wits end end, as I was looking to do some vis tuts on next gen modelling/texturing for various engines like L4D when it's out, GOW/UT3.

I know others have had this, just didn't want to open an old thread and I have not found the solution in those threads.

cheers

bluesmanJust in case not clear in thread here is the image

probably another issue with the broken converter.exe treyarch gave us...have you tried a simple model like a cube? What are your asset manager settings?

This model is literally a cube! A simple crate model I use to test/get used to compiling for various editors.

In asset manager I have really stripped down the settings to Model Phong, None for surface type, and have 1 diffuse map, 1 normal and 1 spec all tgas.

The model has no LODS at the moment just the simple xmodel file exported from Maya.

I have emailed treyarc but doubt I'll get a response as the only contact I could find was general enquiries email.

That is odd...maybe something to do with Maya or your exporter/converter? I could send you the source of one of my models if you want, one that works for me, then we'll have a better idea of where the error is.

please do. I'm pretty certain it is to do with this machine, I'm sure I compiled it fine on my works machine. But saying that it all converts fine in asset manager here just not when compiling the map

I'll send you my file too - don't be harsh it's just a test model I was gonna use to record a tutorial on texturing etx.

nope no joy,

I'm either doing it wrong or my exporter is broken or my machine just doesn't like it.

Here's a breakdown of what I do

Export model from Maya into Model_Export

in this folder are also the tga/.mb file

I create a gdt wih asset manager which has a model and material. The material is set to Model Phong and has 3 tga's , a diffuse, normal, spec.

The model just has it base mesh no LODS for now.

these are converted fine, a material is generated and a model file. I can view the model in Asset Viewer and place fine in Radiant.

Only when compiling the map with a custom model in does it fail. I have tried several of my own models, now yours to no avail.

If still no joy I will retire and wait for the L4D sdk to come out. Shame
