I am curious as to how all of you got into game coding....Can you recommend an approach? I've had very little exposure to C and C++ so bear with me, what book shall I get? Thanks, later :2guns:

very good question. I am interested in seeing the feedback this creates.

I wish I had a recommendation, but I am really a mapper and not a coder.

I have seen a few books on cade design, coding and the such, but after opening them, I was lost by the 3rd page.

Perhaps there is a better place to start?

I'm not sure, I'm really more interested in graphics like skinning and such. So I thought here would be a good place for advice, instead of just buying the first game graphics book I see lol. :2guns:

I was looking at milkshape (cost 20$) and found that there were numerous tutorials out there. Also Maya is coming with UT2K3 and there are numerous tutorials out there for that also. One I seen in particular was how to create a working aerosol can that you could spray a message on a wall. Of course the message would be the same every time the can was used.

Unfortunately, most programming books for learning are like, ine the middle in the since that the author assume you have a basic idea of how to get started and no a bit on coding.

But i think that the easiest way is to gotto school to learn it, but hey, thats just me. [biggrin]

I recommend going to your local college/university etc to get a basic course. Most of the schools around here offer night/day classes at a low cost. Personally I've taken a few in like VB, C++ etc.

Yes there may be a whack of it out there on the net but again it's been so saturated that it's hard to find what's beginners and what's not.

Cheers

And another thing, most of the information you'll find on the net are mostly obselete! So.. schooling is better, imho.
