Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've been back to Modsonline, but I'm working on my newest map. I'm making a map where, as a Marine, you and your squad need to assualt, capture, and then hold a house from an onslaught of terrorists for as long as possible. As with the COD5 zombie scenario, death is certain, but it's to see how long you can survive.
I just have several problems that maybe you guys know the answer to, I've used the search function and searched the tutorials, but these are my problems with it:
1) I'm having problems spawning the terrorists. Right now my plan is to have the player walking around in the house, running from window to window to check up on the horizon, and I have about 15 spawn triggers spread throughout the house, and as the player walks around he triggers terrorists spawning as he trips each trigger. I've got enemy actors set up with a "count" of 1000 to keep them coming from all different locations around the house outside.
The problem is that the actors spawn only once, but the trigger is a trigger_multiple, and like I said the count is at 1000, so I don't know why they only spawn once when I touch the trigger. The triggers are trigger_multiples textured in the "spawner trigger" texture, with the "TRIGGER SPAWN" box checked. The triggers are targeting enemy actors hidden behind walls outside the perimeter of the house, with proper pathnodes and targeted action nodes within the house, and it works well, there's just only one actor the spawns from each actor position, even though they should keep coming because it's a trigger_multiple and the count is very high, I'm trying to figure out why only one guy spawns instead of an onslaught.
2) I want to set a timer that counts from 0 seconds to infinity. The goal would be for as soon as the player enters the house (via a trigger?) he starts the clock. As long as the player is in the trigger zone (the house) he is adding seconds to the clock. Whenever he goes outside, the clock should stop, and then when he re-enters the house the clock resumes counting up. The goal for the player is to survive the longest, and I'm not sure about going about this. The ideal thing would be to have the same set up as acrade mode, just instead of counting down, the numbers counting up, and they pause when the player leaves the house trigger zone. When the player dies it should come up with a message saying, "YOU SURVIVED FOR xx:xx". I'll keep looking into it, but I'm still trying to figure out how to do it.
In the past for my similar COD2 map, I've just had a "box" (script_brushmodel) of clip_player come down (via a sliding door script) and close off the exits to the house, and the counter start, so that the player physically cannot leave the house, I don't know which way is better.
3) I want there to be some reenforcements of marines coming into the house and taking up positions every x amount of minutes, maybe every 5 minutes some marines rush in to help fortify manpower and keep the defense going, but I'm not sure how to do this.
4) Also, can somebody explain to me what the fast file and zone file are? I've gathered that the fast file is just some more crap that we have to go through, and the zone file has a list of all the entities (?) that are used within the map. I'm trying to figure out why the had to have zone files, in the past you could just throw entities and weapons into the map and not have to worry about pasting the information into a zone file, does anybody know why this happened? I took a recess from mapping back after COD2 was released, and I just barely got used to the new changes, and now I'm back in the game with COD4 and I realize a lot has changed.
If anybody has any ideas or links on where to go, or any help on any of these issues, that would be greatly appreciated. The goal for this is for personal amusment among gamers, and for clan leadership as some type of recruiting tryout of some kind, to see how long recruits can last in "the house", idk.
Thanks!
