This may have been a fluke, but while using the modsonline site, I had a popup for a 'virus scan' come up. I've seen these types of 'ads' automatically install software and load a computer full of viruses. I don't know the variety this one was, but it displayed this page:

http[evil]://antivirus-1-scanner.info/scan.php?campaign=mmb%5F12500914151&landid=4&country=%C0UNTRY%25&rs=&new=1

I closed the task as soon as I saw it pop up (via Task Manager) to be safe, but I am now running the necessary programs to check for any breeches. I don't see any bad tasks running, so it probably was only an ad. I will try the link out with a Virtual PC to see if it does indeed infect computers to be certain.

I've been a member since 2001 and understand that you need to get revenue from ads, but I hope this type of ad is unacceptable to you as well.

Thanks for your time with this,

I shut down the assumed advertising for that company. We get VERY little money from advertising so I have no problem shutting down anything that may turn out to be offensive.

I think the bad banner came from an advertiser called Integri. I doubt it came from Google.

Please let me know if you have any more information about this problem, especially if it happens again. If no one reports problems within a week's time, I will assume it was Integri and cancel their account completely.

Thank you for reporting this and I apologize for any problems that may have occurred as a result of this.

Correction on the advertiser's name: Intergi

I have sent them an email asking for them to tell me if it's possible they allow advertising with page redirection. I want them to explain to me what is going on.

Excellent, I wouldn't expect to see that type of ad in the past, glad to see you are still the man!

I did some checking, the 'software' that would be installed is 'Virus Doctor' which has been clearly identified as spyware posing as a virus cleansing program. I fortunately did not get infected.

Thanks for your quick response. Good to know I can count of the modsonline site to be there when I need it.

Anytime you feel that something is amiss, let me know ASAP just like you did and I will jump on it.

I have decided to not even chance it with this advertiser and will be canceling all ads with them from here forth.

It's not worth the risk.
