Start with the very basics here:
http://www.modsonline.com/Tutorials-read-121.html

Then there is another tutorial that goes over a little more complex things(loops, if statements, etc), found here:

http://wiki.modsrepository.com/index.php/Call_of_Duty_5:_Scripting_Basics

I would also suggest looking into a programming language like C++ or even Java as they are similar to the scripting language CoD5 uses( at least as far as loops, arrays, parameter passing, and others go).

Once you get a better understanding, looking through gametype GSCs from the game will help you better understand how a gametype is made.

I really dont recommend C++ for beginners, I'm working with it (and DirectX9/DirectX10), it's much harder then scripting for CoD.

Go to Treyarch's wiki, they have some very good tutorials on scripting.

definately not for beginners, but GSC is easy to learn for all those who know C++ or another C-style language

I actually got started in scripting / programming with php.

The syntax is very similar to CoD although the function library is a lot smaller. Php is nice to learn because there are so many resources and tutorials available. Plus when you're done you can make your own websites ;-)

CoD scripting can take a while to get your head round. Unlike most programs a lot of the core coding you'll do never really ends its all loops!

The trick is to start off small and work up. Don't look at the project as a whole, start with one little bit of it.

I agree =D

Java is another language that is similar. It even uses the println feature that CoD uses, though with a few extra parts added to the line. When i suggested C++ or Java, i was referring to just look up a few things on loops, and if statements, and so on since there would be more info to give a better understanding if needed - nothing complicated. Learning another programming language will definately help though. For example, right now i am learning Java, and it definately gave me better understanding of parameter passing and inheritence, something that would not be in a normal CoD tutorial, just in the already made scripts from the developer and other modders.
