A quick note to let you know the forum rules have been updated. Specifically, details about off-site linking have been expanded.
  • No off-site solicitation. In some forums areas, we have created a special forum category called 'off-site links'. Please use these categories if you think your topic falls into this subject lest your topic be deleted at a moderators discretion. Offsite solicitation may fall into these categories:
    • Advertising - a post for the sake of linking to another website. This type of post appears to not answer questions nor contain value to the forum topic or category. An example would be, "Come to my site for more downloads of game maps and mods."
    • Trafficing- a post that requires a visitor to visit yet another site for the answer to their question when it would have been just as easy to copy and post the answer with proper credit to the author. If you have the time to post the exact link to a page that is not affiliated with this site, then is it assumed you have the time to copy and paste the results of that page here to save everyone time from having to click yet another link to another site.
A link to the forum rules can be found at the top of every page within these forums.

great, its the way it should be, and all the link sites can work together in the proper place, its great that many people, modders, mappers, drop by, and help, but it did seem to be getting where you ask a question, and you get sent off to a different site, and the post dead ended that started here with the fix somewhere else ,give credit where credit do, we are all gamers, and we can all work together, and with promoting are sites, though tags, and sigs, in our post

Why do I get the feeling a bomb went off on the forum while I was at work today?

Nothing happened or went wrong. Just a rule that needed a little more clarification. It's a very bad idea to have links to sites that one day could be gone. Replies to posts that may be valuable at the time of posting could be garbage later. This is the same reason we took away post editing after 10 minutes... the poster would delete their question after it was answered leaving the answer valueless.

I should also mention that in some cases I understand why a link is better than a copy/paste. There may be a time when an entire forum thread contains debugging or other helpful information. But most of the time I see links to threads that could have just as easily been answered with a copy/paste.

If the poster take the time to find, copy and paste a url, they could have just as easily found, copy and pasted the contents of that url thereby saving everyone further steps... and later... the realization that the linking url is dead and of no use.
