I searched for this, and maybe I just didn't use the right words but I can't find anything.

A friend is making a map, and he couldn't get the minimap to work so I volunteered to help him and have been working on that. I followed a tutorial, then used a second one as a reference to see if I possibly made any mistakes.

So everything is done that I know of, the two ff files are in with the map along with the iwd that contains the iwi image of the minimap. When I open cod4 and run the map, it starts to load and then the game locks up at about 1/4 to 1/3 of the load.

Any ideas on this? Or do you need more information?

Pretty sure your image of minimap is too big, file size.

What is the size of the file?

I know there is a limit, because I've hit it before, and it does just what you say when it is too large.

I have added that already, and the iwi is 171 KB.

Try these things:

1) Make sure the minimap is 512 x 512.
2) Make sure its DDS or TGA 24 bits before converting
3) Make sure you have this in your GSC file:

maps\mp\_compass::setupMiniMap("compass_map_mp_mapname");

setdvar("compassmaxrange","2000");

4) The wiki.treyarch site says to add this to your GSC:

maps\mp\_compass::setupMiniMap("compass_map_yourmapname");

--Make sure it is compass_map_MP_yourmapname, not compass_map_yourmapname.

5) Make sure all your settings are set properly from the wiki treyarch.

6) Try to follow RGN's tutorial for minimaps.
