so i just played threw the demo a couple of times and came away overall impressed.

on a negative note i felt as tho the involvement isnt as destructible as the original game which made me a little disappointed...although i didnt notice it on my first play threw. whats everyone else think of the demo?

As far as demos go, I thought it fit the bill. I jumped once which I think is the point of the game. I also thought it was extremely simple. But thinking back to the first game and its demo, that too was simple. It managed to demonstrate what I think the game is about and how it will be played without ruining the actual game play for the released version.

I will buy it but I recommend that anyone else thinking about buying the game to check out the demo first. I don't expect it to be a fun-to-mod game, but I do expect it to be a fun-to-play game.

Oh yeah, they didn't kill it with over-done hardware requirements. Not sure how it will handle on a below average machine, but on a higher-end machine you should be able to max out the settings.

It's decent overall, but there's nothing really remarkable about it.

The graphics would have been more impressive if the game had been released before Crysis, Far Cry 2, or Fallout 3, but they're a bit underwhelming in January 2009. My opinion in that regard, though, might be influenced by the fact that I had to play in a letter box, and I found the HUD to be kind of stupid.

The sound, on the other hand, is excellent, especially in 5.1 surround. The weapon sounds in particular are much better than they were in the original FEAR. The atmospheric stuff - ambient sounds, stingers, etc. - is very well done.

The combat seemed dumbed-down a little (welcome to the mediocre era of cross-platform development): it's competent, but not innovative in any way. It is nice to have real ADS this time around, but it's sad that it seems worth mentioning.

I'll probably get the game, but I'll wait to scoop it out of a bargain bin. On the strength of the demo, I don't think I'll have much reason to take time off from Left 4 Dead and CoD5 when the full version of FEAR 2 is released.

I've never played the first one, and I wasn't too impressed with the demo mainly because of the Quake style spawning -- the enemies seem to spawn right in front of your view behind cover or are already hanging out behind cover like they have an all seeing eye of the map, a kind of static placement of guys. I didn't really like that, because you kill a guy or two and it looks like the room is clear, you advance then a second later a guy pops out from cove a few feet away.
