I placed an NPC combine soldier to spawn asleep in my map. When I walk over a tripwire I set him to wake up and attack the player. I have 2 problems:

1. The NPC is invisible and you can only see his gun (he also doesn't move, even after he is supposed to wake up).

2. The console says WARNING- NPC in level but there is no path nodes.

Whats the solution to this mysterious caper?

1. Probably invisible because of the npc character you chose. Start with the npc_combine_s until you get it working. Then experiment with which one you will use.

2. Place those nodes. Place info_node entities in the map almost like a grid. Each one 128 units apart from each other. If they are farther apart, the npc can't find them. (note at most 128 units from the npc too).

Oh I did chose the simplest combine possible, he is still invisible.

So those info nodes sort of guide the combine towards you?

the nodes tell the npc where they are allowed to go. They are blind and dumb, they need a helping hand... or helping node in this case.

the npc_combine_s should be visible in single player. if not, delete and re-add.

Cool thanks. Oh yeah, say I want the player to not get attacked by those certain combine, which spawn right in the place where a player walk later on; it will look stupid if the player walks past some frozen combine. Is there any way to change this?

I don't have hammer open in front of me to look it up, but I believe that there is a flag you can check out not waking up or not pursuing (holding their ground). Give them a stun stick and check the flag so they don't move.
