OK after about 4 months of work, I am nearing the end of finishing my map. BUT! I have an error I cannot overcome. When I compile my BSP (its fine even with some small errors like decals floating) it says it cannot find my .grid_not file and then it says:

calculating light grid...
51.2% complete, 11 seconds done, 10 seconds remaining
Small hunk ran out of memory

I put in both that purple and blue light grid volume textures in and out of playable areas. I compiled, same thing.

Took them both out, same thing happened again. Either way when I run the map after the error... my changes work BUT the map is all rainbow tinted. How do I get rid of the error?

rainbow tinted? sounds like the lightgrid problem. and you should only use the lightgrid wherever ur player can only go. heres a link read on it cause its pretty simple and explained.

Thanks but I've read and followed that. I think my issues have to do with the calculating light grid error I get. "Small hunk of memory" prevents it from finishing the light grid so it gives that rainbow tinted color.

When I compile I have it on fast, verbose, modelshadow ticked.

I got the same error. I'm not sure if its correct, but I unticked everything and got the map to compile.

It went up to 58.4% complete and then stopped. So same thing. Why is this happening? Do I need a stronger system to compile? I had everything BUT fast ticked.

Also, if I only select Fast for compiling, what does that mean for my map when I finally play it? Does the quality of the map decrease? I don't get the difference between ticking fast or ticking extra.

And rdxradar did you untick everything? Including fast? You had nothing ticked?

hm......I know that if you use a lot of lightgrid that can also be an issue. Do you only have a lightgrid in the playable area or all over the map? Try only having it in the playable area if you havent done that. then recompile ur bsp and rebuild ur fastfile. There were also 2 errors I saw:

now idk wat these are but u might want to get that fix in your map, seeing how they are not decals.


I took out ALL lightgrid and placed a small 512 x 512 with a 128 height in my main playable load area. I took out the two lights that had that error. I still got the same small hunk ran out of memory error. I am so close to finishing but have no idea on how to get rid of this error. [mad]
