Just an idea I have been playing around with, I've always liked strategy games and first person shooters, so obviously when Call of Duty UOs Base Assault gametype was given to us I was in heaven!

But it still was not perfect, I know a lot of people who think that CODWAW will have no BAS, so that's where this idea comes in to play.

I basically want to transport the Company of Heroes theme to CODWAW.

(I'll try and paint a picture here..)

So a typical allied base would be the HQ (where people spawn and some weapons are available etc), a Barracks where heavy weapons are available (possibly through upgrades/perks), a motor pool (willys jeep spawn and halftracks if available in WAW) and the heavy motor pool for the shermans.

The base can be protected by MG nests and the objective of each team would be to either destroy all base buildings, or simply destroy the enemy HQ.

All the buildings will be replicated from COH (or we could make completely new ones- I'm only using COH as a reference here) Buildings will be destroyable (as with the BAS gametype they probably wont be fixable).

I'm planning some large maps at the moment, and have built a few buildings. I'm not worried about the game having a BAS game type already, that actually makes things easier, not even bothered about how moddable it is, as long as it's WW2 and has vehicles it should work well. It can either be an expansion to the BAS game type or a whole new game type, don't mind.

Only reason for posting this here is to help expand the idea and to help me realise more of the pros and cons of this (still in the knowledge that anything I make now might not work in WAW), I'll make it happen none the less as its only a hobby.

So to sum it up, Renegade AOW game type in WW2 setting, with COH buildings and styles, and the run-gun game play of World at War. Opinions/critics welcome!, thanks for reading.

Just forgot to add, it will NOT be called The Company of Heroes mod!

sounds interessting. the most important question is: what will the limits of WaW be?

i would really like a gametype where you have a team base, a weapon storage, different vehicle types and more complex, strategic objectives. maybe too early to plan details...

You just made my day techno, hopefully it will be possible and you can pull it off. Great to hear that I'm not the only one who remembers and misses the glory days of bas.

I do not think that Treyarch would be stupid enough to miss this opportunity to bring back BAS, so here's hoping Lee!

I have to completely agree with Sevenz, I don't think anything can be planned to the absolute until the game arrives, but we can get a list of ideas and create some maps/prefabs etc. So we have something to work with at least when the game is out.

Tam you would think someone would have made BAS for COD2/4 even without vehicles it still would have been interesting.

One of the problems I'm having while designing the buildings (there's different types of buildings for every theme of map/ desert buildings in desert maps etc) is how to destroy them.

Now I can blow up a building easily, but in the old BAS players had to blow there way into the a bunker, and then blow it from the inside. I was thinking that every building could have a special 'air raid style room' in it so you have to blow away a steal door (or a wall from the outside) and then run in and blow up a generator (which when turned off stops that buildings capabilities... i.e building tanks).

Sorry, I might have been a bit tired when I post that. I think that BAS never made it into CoD2/4 not only because on the lack of vehicles, but as well because for the scale of the map released SD and then SAB were the infantry version of BAS (somehow).

Tug of war , as in MoH:SH and MoH:BT, might be the infantry version, as the objectives were much more part of the map (like in SD) but each team had several different one and the opportunity to spawn multiple times (like in SAB).

So I naturally thought of TOW as a gametype (although it is more work on the map that BAS).

When you mention Tug of War you gave me an idea: some locations perhaps where if your team capture it you get a bonus vehicle or something, until the other team over run you.

Well I'm now going about creating the bases (without models and textures for easy porting later on) for each faction.

Currently I have 8 buildings. I have decided some base layouts::

(remember this is going to be US vs Germans in Normandy, Russians vs Germans in Russia and US vs Japanese in Japan and the Islands surrounding)

US Normandy Base:

HQ - A large French house taken over by American forces. (main spawn, includes a couple of basic weapons)

Barracks - A quickly assembled tent and sandbags with a shelter outside where a Willy's Jeep spawns, and bazookas/satchels can be found.

Supply Depot - A camouflage net which covers crates of SMG and rifle ammo that re-spawn, often hidden in gardens.

Tank Depot - Converted warehouses and factory buildings where Sherman tanks spawn.

MG nests... A .50 some sandbags and any heroic human player.

Just to give an impression of the different bases: Currently the Japanese version of the Supply Depot has its munitions under some crappy corrugated iron, and near by is a wooden hatch masking an underground entrance to the below ground munitions store (blow the hatch, jump down blow up the munitions to stop the above ground munitions re-spawning)

I want to take some screen shots but with it all in caulk you can't see much, I'll make some of them textured and compiled so people can see what it's looking like.

I like those gametypes aswell, I also like Powerstruggle in Crysis, you capture powerplants to get power for your main reactor, when its on 100% one player can produce a nuke and blow up the enemys HQ, all players start with pistols and have to buy weapons and upgrades every round, vehicles are placed on the map, you earn 'money' by killing enemys, capturing points, helping out others, etc.
