i was wondering if i did make a single player map how would i test it?

I haven't tried it, but it should be the same as with hl2dm. Place the map in the SP game directory where other maps would be located, load the SP game, open the console, type "map mapname" and go.

For Half-Life 2, you need to use the info_player_start entity (to spawn) and then you just just place the map into the hl2>maps folder and run the game, you can use the console typing map mapname or select create server and select your map.
