Ouch Welshy!

There are a number of colleges near me, some of them are mixed college/universities, I've been doing some research on which ones to start a teacher training course at and the best one is a good drive away, so it looks like I better get that motorbike I always wanted, and then get teaching! (that's right, important things first!)

If I get a job I'll try and pawn some of Foyles books off on the students... so he can buy a new pair of headphones that dont make him look so retro!

My Uni (Northumbria) does a Games Design Course, which seems predominately based around designing GameCube games... The only thing I can see students learning from this is the process required to design and create a game, but won't give the student any programming experience relevant to today's next gen market.

My course, Multimedia and Digital Entertainment Computing, has a couple of modules on interactive systems and games where we had to create simple arcade games, but thats about it. I'm trying to come up with an idea for my final year project that I will be staring in a couple of weeks that may allow me to utilise my game design skills and aspirations, but so far its proving difficult.

There are actually a few game design companies where I live, but sadly they tend to focus on mobile phone and old console games, but beggars can't be choosers. The thing is I don't know of any initiatives to encourage fresh talent into the local or national industry.

A sad state of affairs unfortunately...
