I ran three servers at a time about a year ago, all with streaming PB and only two hackers got through in a year, but it caught almost 50 others, and had a permanent ban on a few thousand others. If you know how to set it up right, and maintain it it can be a very useful tool, but if you think it does everything by itself, then yes it will be a worthless piece of crap to you.
