I am currently building a multi player map and my map is about 46mb and I am no where near being done. Is there any tricks that I can use to cut down on the size to avoid the 50mb limit. I am making everything detail and will change to structural as needed for portaling.

Does size or quantity of brushes reflect on file size more then other or are they the same?
Brushes verse patches, does one reflect a smaller impact on file size?
Making prefabs verse directly building with in the map.

idk bout the other stuff but i stopped putting lights in my map and switch it to using light from the sky texture and it greatly dropped the file size by as much as 10 mbs. map was medium size. if you need help with the light coming off the sun heres the link:

You can use the "eat the dots" method rather than covering your map in a light grid volume. That is always fun.[eek]

also try to limit urself to like 5 (or less) textures and just apply decals to them....or use them differently with decals or stretch the texture differently. That has worked for me in cod2 in the past.

Dont use exploding cars......that'll save several meg.

I may be wrong, but i cant see how limiting the amount of stock textures you use will cut down the maps size.

Thanks for the reply s

Thought about the eating the dots things :)
Already thought about the exploding cars and I have none.

Is there a 50mb limit, I thought I read some where there was. Plus I have heard there was a problem on certain mods and Linux servers. Plus my clan has had problems with ones of that size on our Linux server running extreme mod.
