Hey,

I was wondering, what tool do I use to make a model for CoD2? I downloaded Milkshape 3D, but then read here that there is no plugin for it.

As I thought it might be a little easier make a model with a program instead of creating a "prefab" of a vehicle that I want to put in my map.

CoD2 or 4? Because you posted this in the CoD4 forum, but are asking about CoD2.

Anyway: CoD2: Maya 6.0
CoD4: Maya 7 or 8

Nope. The trial versions don't work for CoD2, afaik, but I might be wrong here, never made models for CoD2.

Are we able to take models made in the PLE version and send it to someone with the full version of maya to import?

i think yes. the PLE versions don't work 'cause of the missing plugin support, everything else should be fine.

does anybody have a root server for web-based xmodel export (just a simple script is needed to remotely control maya)?

i read the limitations of the PLE versions and got bad news for you:

no way to import .mp files into a commercial Maya. If you can export to OBJ, you might get static models into cod using maya.



Wavefront OBJ to IW XMODEL v6 - Converter


auhor's page is offline, latest exe i got: xmodel_creator_v0.6.zip

important are:
* Edges
* Normals
* UVs
* Materials
* Triangulate !!! (Xmodel Converter only supports triangles now ... maybe i will implement quads later ...)
* Grouping: ObjectGroups
