yes i did, do they have to be called for expample airsoft1.stype

cause i have been naming them surface@airsoft1.dds

is that my problem right there???

Yes, that's your problem right there... surface is not a shader type..

dirt, wood, grass etc. are... take a look at the names of the stock textures... the word before the @ is the shader.. pick one which suits your need... I suggest wood for your billboard...

Wayne, go through your pk3 files and look for the "shadertypes\world" folder. In there you will find the available shaders you can put before the @ sign. Everything before the .stype is what you use.

decal.stype = decal@custom_texture01.dds
mud.stype = mud@custom_texture02.dds
glass_blend_in.stype = glass_blend_in@custom_texture03.dds

and so on....
