I am unsure if this is possible, but can one have COD4 radiant installed without having the game installed?

I ask this because there are a few environments that i have plenty of time on my hands to design levels, but I wouldn't be able to install the game to install radiant.

Thanks for any help!

Well, the answer is both yes, and no.

No, you cant run Radiant without all the texture files, and as they make up 85% of the game (in the IWD files), you might as well install the game completely.

Also, you wouldnt be able to test your map if the game wasnt installed.

Yes, you dont need iw3mp.exe or iw3sp.exe or the .dll files. So, technically, you dont need the whole game installed to run Radiant.

But looking at the whole question, you need to ask yourself, is it worth NOT installing?

I wasn't going to develop full maps or something of the like with it, It would be used mainly to make caulked or, if necessary, untextured buildings and structures. I would still be testing them on my home computer and texturing and adding models and all those goodies there as well. I see it more as something to do and to speed up my map-making process a little.

Yeah, you dont have to have CoD4 installed, just copying the whole cod4 folder from one place to another will work.

I dont have cod4 installed, but its on my HD and radiant ect work normally (it will ask me do i want to install cod4 when i put the dvd in)

Yeah, similar for how Ive always had COD games on my PC. At the moment, I have 4 internal HDs and I have a copy of my main COD4 install on each of the other 3 drives.

1 is for gaming, 2 are for modding and running dedicated test servers, and 1 is purely for compiling mod.ff files (so that my primary install has a "clean" (stock) set of raw files, and not the changed ones I use for modding).

I just copied the primary install over to the other drives.

I installed a main one because when patches come out, you cant always bank on getting a zipped copy of the files right away. Which means I want to run a patch installer and for it to find the install location via the Win registry.

You can just point the installer to your copy, but some things then dont get patched properly - like the install.log and version.inf etc, as the destinations for these are in the Win registry for COD4.
