To get the water real looking you need to place reflection probes on some places I guess? Cause it looks like some light brown plate now...

Could you tell me how to place them, cause I have put reflection probes all over my water, but it still looks like poo-poo..

Poo-poo is an excellent way of describing it! Lol

Probes didn't make a difference for me (tried that first thing ages ago actually). I read somewhere else that portalling the water areas was the trick, can anyone confirm this? I am hoping that's not the case...

lol, I actually used the phrase s h i t, but I guess that's censured here.

Hmm portals eh, I need to learn how to make those, I'm only working with detail brushes atm and decided not to use any portals.

Anyone knows, what they exactly are and how to make them?

Btw, I didn't see any different either with the reflection probers, I only saw my lighting reflecting in the water.

Portals have absolutely, totally, 100% nothing to do with getting your water to look ok.
The only time a portal affects water is if a portal cell cuts across a patch or brush of water texture - you'll get an invisible line in your stream/pond with different sets of reflections on each side.

Reflection probes reflect the geometry that surrounds it into the water. If you've just got a skybox, a light, a patch of water and a probe, the only reflections you'll see are lights and skybox. Make the buildings that surround the water, then you'll see reflections.


Try making an ultra simple map with a big water brush surrounded by tall, thin 'case' texture (the red, green, yellow etc with numbers) brushes. Add probes in different places and see how the case brushes reflect off the water - its not easy to get something that looks realistic.
