I just did about 30minutes' work worth of portaling on my map and radiant crashed [mad]. The one time I decide to not save my work every 5 minutes Radiant crashes[cry].

Anyways on to the questions:

1. I have a hill map (mp_silenthill). Because terrain is automatically a detail brush, would I need to put a higher "bottom" cault at the top of my hill or not, in order to create separate cells at the top of my hill?

2. Can the skybox be used as a wall to a cell?

3. For the outer edges of my map, would I need to place a caulk brush that goes up as high as the portals in order to "close" the cell? In the CoD1 Tutorial for this, the author wrote:

Would a simple Portal No Draw be enough to act as an outside cell wall?

4. Also in his(her) tutorial he(she) did not mention having to break the outer walls up for each cell (t-junctions). Do t-junctions only apply to portal textures?

Yes the skybox can be used to close of your portal - if you load some of the bigger United Offensive Base Assualt maps you can see this method used effectively.

I would imagine on a smaller map that this shouldnt be used, as said portal would be visible from just about anywhere.

Caulk can be used also to shut off a portal, aslong as it is a structural brush.

And no no_draw_portal wouldnt work by itself, it really doesnt do anything- only the portal texture does, portal_nodraw is basically the nodraw texture for portals.
