Just reading through some documents:

• New Game Materials must contain prominent identification at least in any on-line description and with reasonable duration on the opening screen: (a) the name and E-mail address of the New Game Materials’ creator(s) and (b) the words “THIS MATERIAL IS NOT MADE OR SUPPORTED BY ACTIVISION.”

Thats from the COD4 editors license agreement, so should all our readmes contain this? Otherwise it seems that if "our" materials damage someones computer, and we do not have the quote from above in a readme, and the damaged computers owner tries to sue activision, activision would pass the lawsuit onto the materail creator.... right?

reading on though, they cant be found responsible for any such damages... weird.

I wouldn't worry about it. No one does that.

"dont worry, I allways drive through red"
"dont worry, I can hold my drink, I allways drive home after a night in the bar"

lessons learned by life: worry.

its no big deal to put that in your readme file, it takes like two extra seconds, and if it makes activision happy... yay.

edit: just re-read the post, looks like it needs to be in the opening screen... I guess putting it in your loading screen should do the trick.. still a two second job with photoshop.

How is taking responsibility for the content going to prevent activision from passing on a suit to you? Think about it. The reason they want you to warn people is so they don't come after activision but instead come after you. By all means put the warning in your readme but in reality it will operate to do absolutely nothing, and they are not asking you to do that for your protection, but to cover their own ass.

With or without the warning, activision would still try and pin the responsibility on you regardless of any warnings. These sort of boiler plate things often don't really mean anything.

I'm not worried about activision sueing my ass, or activision getting its ass sue'd or what have you.. I'm worried about activision allmost getting its ass sued and deciding to pull all support/implementation for mods n custommaps.
