I was in the middle of making a map, when my power went out, yes I do not have a UPS. Restarted radiant, map and auto save map which has time 5 minutes before power outage now has errors. So much for auto save.

line 36632: Match Token : got '{', expected ')'

Changed each line that came up with an error, now I get this error when I open the file in the level editor.

Updating layers
^1 ERROR : Couldn't find material '3'
WARNING : Could not find material 'wc/3'

Freezes and thats it.

I do not get this error with my completed map.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, except about buying a UPS. :)

Try opening your .map in notepad, then checking out line 36632

The error states ''Match Token : got '{', expected ')''' so you could try editing that line and replacing the { with a ), you never know might be worth a shot. Back up your map first..

You can also search for youmap.bak, rename the .bak extension to .map and open that up.

I opened the .map file with textpad which gives the ability to see line numbers, handy with 62,000 lines. BTW radiant and text pad line numbers are off by three for who ever may need to do this. I edited it until that "cant find material error", of course there is no line number, that would be too easy. I am in the process of adding brush by brush from one .map file to a renamed .map file then loading the new .map file until I get the error. Hopefully you trick works.

I can not find any .bak files in COD4.

I was able to recover the map, with minimal loss. I found that each time I edited it to satisfy the level editor I would get a cant find material error, so I would just delete any entity including all associated brushes with that entity and now it loads. Seamed like most of the errors were associated with cylinders that I used as door handles.
