Well I am just curious as to who else will be mapping for CSS? And we needed a topic in here seeing as how Foyleman was kind enough to place the new sections up.

I will post more info as I find it...

editor: Hammer
modeling: XSI (softimage)

I did grab the Hammer editor but couldn't install it without some parts of the game which wasn't out yet. So I did get to play with it. I don't remember where I found it.. but it was probably through google.

Start steam after your HL2 game is installed and download the sourceSDK and it'll install hammer for you and the other stuff if you want. I got mine set up already but haven't had much time to play with it yet.

I will be playing around with CSS mapping, to be sure.

The editor -- all you need is Hammer. It really is a fantastic editor, especially with the features in the newest version. It'll perform all your lighting, compiling, etc; it's the one stop shop for making levels, in a way.

The physics stuff is VERY easy to use -- however, much like the advent of colored lighting back with the Quake 2 days, be careful that you don't overspam your level with a bunch of physics objects that end up ruining performance.

Yeah the editor is like 1/2 Radiant 1/2 UT Editor.
Odd but nice...
Seems quite powerful too.

I am a veternam of Worldcraft (now Hammer) and released maps that date back to early 1999 and also include maps for mods like Adrenaline Gamer etc.

I made about 30 or so maps. The funny thing is that most of my quickly made maps get the most play even to this day. My most played maps were the castle maps like Castle Overload and 5CastleV3.

The Hammer editor is powerful and nice but you will miss your curves -patch meshes/caps that you used in Q3 editing.
