Dispite reports of not being aboe to get your hands on a working copy of Half-Life 2, I heard that all steam activated accounts will go live overnight (lastnight) which means that you should have a working copy as of now. The Steam website reports: Half-Life 2 is available now for purchase and to play. Those who pre-purchased their copy via Steam may access the game by restarting Steam, then double-clicking on the Half-Life 2 icon in their Steam Games directory. To purchase your copy via Steam, get Steam now.

Ive read the system requirements and wandered if my athlon xp 1900+ would run it smoothly? Everything else im sure of.

My buddy is trying to register on STEAM and register his copy of HL2.... "STEAM is too busy to complete your request". You can't even load the game without STEAM. F'n STEAM.

Now it's my turn to install. Thanks to STEAM, I'm sitting here for what feels like an hour installing 5 disks and waiting for STEAM to unlock my game. Luckily I already had a STEAM account so I didn't have to sit through all of that. I saw my buddy playing his game earlier today and I really think the game looks tremendous. It is Beautiful.

Steam works great, the reason it gives that error is when it's really loaded down. Years ago Steam was horribly weak in that area, but this year it was incredibly great, hardly never any downtime and updates going good...it's better than most give credit for. :P Beat me to the news, Half-Life 2 is available now for purchase and to play.
