Hey, well this is my first map and i didnt want to go for a huge map because if it was rubbish it would be a large waste of time so i went for a small CQB map. I'm still just making the shell of it, been working on it for a few hours now. As you can see some of the buildings have 2 floors some dont, the Green blocks are either the road, ladders windows or staircases.
Any advice is greatly appreciated and if anyone wants to help me out even more (mentor me :p) then just msg me or msn me at richwilliams@gmail.com

here are the screenies:

The roofs will be sloped and it will be called Crossroads (very original) and i think it would be good for about 8 people

Its sensible to start small. I made three to four small maps before I finally decided on the UO_falk88 in the custom map forum. Each time you make a new map or prefab some buildings you learn a little more. Take a good look at the FOY map within the editor. Look at the buildings, their size / dimensions are important because they work .

When you run around the map, everything appears to be in scale, and its free and easy to move around within the buildings of FOY.

When I first started with building, I tried building something like my house, acurately and soon discovered that while it was possible, the corridors and rooms were just too dam small to be of much fun. You have to expand the dimensions a bit to get something that flows well.

Having said that, if it plays well and you can have a fun blasting around then be very happy and proceed straight to the next more ambiscous (spelling?) project. [smile]

Anyway I like what you have posted so far. Keep it up and ask questions because everyone here is so dam helpful [biggrin]

Sorry for double post, but its the people who arnt posting's fault :p
Well i have got further along the line with the buildings. All of them have got their walls, windows and doors. Some even have a roof. Well i have started to add textures and work on the detail of each building 1 by 1 here's the first:

And here is a view of the new 2nd floors, need to add rooms to them damn forgot that.

Another Thing To Keep Ya Eye On...Though Not a Real Prob
Give Ya Doors a Complete Frame Work Looks Better In The
Game If Ya Door Has a Complete Frame Rather Than Just One Side ie Like Ya Building With The Brown Roof

Thanks for the tips Shadow i'm not sure what you mean about the frames but i had a go anywho:

yeah i think the main problem with this map will be the size of everything, it may be a bit small.
Thanks

Good first try dude!!!!! Like you i started off small, but now im off doing u-boat pens and stuff. Looks like it will be a good map, and a well built one, as you have made everything out of caulk first, and just set out the structures, not to much detail to fast, which is where i sometimes go wrong lol.
