What would be the best way to portal this.




All the buildings are done with no errors just the outside left.
I saw one tut which said to break map up into 9 segments and another that said to many are bad.So do i portal all the outside or bits of it randomly and if so whats the best way to do it.This is my first map and i didnt even know about portalling till quite recently so didnt plan map with portalling in mind (not that id know how to anyway).Thanks.

can you post an overhead view....maybe from the 2d window of rad would be better

can you see through the bottom of them platforms? if so portaling may be a waste of time, simply because you have so much detail and the player can see almost all the map from any position.

I have a question and it's unrelated but its about the layout of your map in radiant. I'm just wondering how do you keep track of everything, especially when you have to zoom in to edit details? Cause after awhile it just looks like a bunch of lines and you cant tell what's what.

No the platforms have full bottoms with no gaps but gaps are present in the sides.This is the problem i have as all the map is pretty much visable at any given point.Unfortunate but like i said i never knew of portalling.@_ca_garrett yeah lol loads of lines,but i use the filter function a lot and when im doing a certain building etc i highlight it and use alt+h to hide everything else then shift+h to unhide when im done.Only a beginner so not sure if there's a better way.

With the filter settings you can select what will be shown in Radiant and what not, eg. if u uncheck 'detail' in the filter settings, no detail brushes will be shown in Radiant. So you are able to hide/unhide different things by their kind.

A prefab is nothing other then your map. You can open edit and save it the same way. To put it in your map rightclick the 2d window and select misc -> prefab.
Another way, select all things in your map you want to have as a prefab. Now from the menu select File -> Save selected... Save it in the folder prefabs (doesn't matter where you save it, but there it's easier to find it later).
Now, rightclick the 2d window, select misc -> prefab and choose the prefab which you have saved before. Select the prefab, rightclick 2d window again and select prefab -> enter prefab. Now you are only see your prefab. Select all things of your prefab and move them close to origin 0,0,0. Rightclick 2D window again and select prefab -> leave prefab. Answer the question, if you want to save the the changes, with yes. Now you're back in your map with your prefab. Move/rotate the prefab like you want it and enter it like described before to make changes to it.
