I agree with LPRay and NovemberDobby.

TESTING is the word. Not only for the tutorials but also for maps. Many, many maps are released without, at least, checking for the files integrity. We saw maps released with only a bsp file inside the zip, other maps with files in double, maps not working at all, etc.

Do not trust all the submitters. Many of them don't even know how to submit a file ( seen in a forum post ), many don't even know what to put in files and/or how to make a good file structure.

I think its important as you are a tutorials and maps site.

While that's a great idea, there is no way we can test all the submissions. I personally don't have time to test everything that is submitted and I don't know of any other admins that do have the time. We do have an error submission system (form) available for each file and every error that is submitted is checked. That's all I can afford to do (time wise). [ohwell]

I kind of like the idea of tutorials being a bit more flexible. Something like a wiki, but everything goes under moderation before changes are live.

Overall, this site has improved the Gaming Community drastically. I have to say that this site has not only helped me learn things everyday, but has answered every question I have 99% of the time. Thanks to the great Talent here in the Forums, ... Moderators and site help. Thanks again guys.

There are some things I would like to address though. Since this site hosts forums on many different types of games, it is the newer games that stay prominent and those forums are most active, and because right now I'm only working with Call of Duty 4, this is where my feedback will be geared towards.

Yes, the tutorials have worked 90% of the time, but that doesn't mean they all don't have something to offer the reader. Although some may be somewhat incomplete, they all offer some kind of help in all directions.

I think the problem with the Tutorials is that they are not Readable by all users. What I mean by this is... not everyone on all levels can understand what the Tutorial is trying to tell them. Beginners don't understand some of the vocabulary used. We need Tutorials For Dummies, in a nutshell. Simple but to the point. I think all tutorials need to have sections, screenshots that are readable, and not too small. Available for download in PDF, MS Word documents or even Video. Yes it may take some time, but if you don't want the Forums flooded with the same questions over and over again, these need to be addressed in the finalizing of the Tutorial Section. If you notice, in all the sections, you will find that the same questions are popping up for beginners starting their maps, and others for Mappers trying to finalize their maps, with the Load-screens and Mini-maps, rainbow colors and light grids. I understand that every Game will never be bug free, nor the tools to make mods and maps.

I also suggest that there is a Section just dedicated to working Scripts. [read]An area that has a Coded section of scripts that work and that are clean/organized. Many of the scripts I see including the ones I post at times are very messy. Although most scripts need to be set up the same in Radiant, there may need to be a basic layout shown in the Scripting Section on how to set up a Generic script in Radiant. Entity Editor ---> Key & Value, and so on. Obviously for those just getting started in using scripts for their Maps.

There should also be a trouble shooting area, where people can either talk about how to fix simple problems that Radiant has, bugs, work arounds. These things should save threads in the Forums if Trouble shooting Section already has the work around for the Problem at hand. People educated in this area can post problems they and others have experienced in the past, as either Sticky or Permanent Threads.

Even if these issues are not addressed, I'm still not going anywhere. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else trying to figure this stuff out than right here. Nice work on the site everybody. Very nice work ! [thumbs_up]

Can't really fault the site. Everything's easy to find, and there's little "elitism" from the members

However, I still think the tutorials should be sorted out a bit. A lot of the tutorials for CoD1, UO, 2 and 4 apply to all the series and could be put into a "CoD General Mapping", or even a "Radiant Basics" tutorial section

Bah, who needs MODSonline? [wink]

lol, jk. MODSonline is great with all the members submitting tutorials and downloads keeping the site up, what I also like is most of the answers in the forums are from normal community members and not moderators. (Not talking to you caretaker, you post a lot)

Thank you all for contributing!

How about increasing the size of the box at the top, so you can see six forums topics and the 'Join chat' button is under the 'upgrade' button?

How about a scrolling box with 10 forum topics. Then the box
size will remain the same but the content will more than
double. Plus you'll have to watch longer to see what scrolls up. [casanova]

Some sort of ability to edit the tutorials is needed. Incorrect tutorials are putting people on the wrong track. Obviously you guys cant test the tuts or error check them, that would take too long, but the community can.

Maybe something as simple as allowing comments at the end of the tuts? Even when someone wants to change their own tut, they have to open a thread, like Col Bilkos great minimap tutorial; 99% correct but one or two incorrect things needed changing, which were addressed in a thread, which is now buried among thousands while the tut remains incomplete.
