hey all,

I am a noob at modding. never have I ever done any modding at all.
here is my situation.
I run a mac, windows on one side mac on another. I can do the modding in the windows side, but the game is on the mac side. will that matter?

second question, all i want to do is switch a map from day to night. (cassino) is it hard? what do I have to know or read? (were do I look) I did read the FAQ and the and the tutorials, but its in german for the most part. (not really in german, but i dont get it)

anyone want to help a old guy?

well im not sure about the mac/windows thing

the only way you could change cassino from day to night is if you had the .map file, which you will probally never get, or make a .bsp decompiler which will never happen, or recreate the map from scratch, which is very difficult

sorry to be a bit blunt, half asleep at the momement

hope this helped

you can use a hex editor to change the lighting. I have never done it but I think it is possible.

open the bsp with the hex editor (or notepad) and look for where the lighting information is.

dont use notepad, it will almost crash when opening the bsp, and when saving it saves in a different format

I've made a map nighttime by hexediting a bsp. I use HHD Hex Editor, and I think it's freeware.
It's been a while sinse I did anything like this, but you are limited to what values you can change as the lighting is "baked" into the map, so you won't be able to change the direction of the light, and I'm not sure you can change the intensity of lighting by changing the diffusecolor and ambient values - but give it a go anyway

Skybox and water shaders are easy to change though - basically just find their entry in the bsp, say sky/mpkursk, and change it to sky/mpkrskn, and create a new shader script with that name that uses night cubemap

0-0 There is a Decompiler on a Very Low-Key Site that I know of. but you cant find it on google or yahoo, let alone any other search. like i said, its low-key. and im not about to tell everyone the secret to stealing ppls maps. And Then Again; Every one who makes a Map should have some proof (In the .map) That they made it. such as a plaque with there name or something![pimp]

HxD is also a very nice freeware hex editor.
Get the latest version.
