Hi, am am making new textures, and I want to use normal maps (those duplicates that have a purple/blue look) to make it look more real. So in photoshop I made my grenade_col.dds, and then with photoshop's NormalMapFilter I generated my normal map, grenade_col_n.dds.
In asset manager I made a new material, for the "color map" I selected grenade_col.dds, and for the "normal map" I selected grenade_col_n.dds. But when I hit convert, I got the following error:
Code:
compositing image: source image 'model_export\grenade\grenade_col_n.dds' is not a compositable image type

Any help?[confused]

Oh, and I see that there are 5 map types in assetmanager;
color map
detail map
normal map
specular map
cosine power map

what are the rest for?

Thanks[wave]

all the textures you make must be tga, the colour map can be dds if you want though

what they do are:

Detail Map:
Add extra detail (usually a bit of fuzz) so it looks like a higher resolution image that what it really is (used for textures mostly)

Normal Map:
Creates extra shadows so it doesnt look so flat

Specular Map:
Adds shine to the textures/skins

Cosine power Map:
Fuzzes up the specular map so it doesnt look so wet

its easier to call them like this

colour map:
blah_col.dds (although i call mine just blah.dds)

detail map:
dont really know

normal map:
blah_nml.tga

specular map:
blah_spc.tga

cosine map:
blah_cos.tga

Just another question, how would I make the specular map? Just a white image or how does it work?

for spec maps, the brighter the colour is, the more shiner it is

you can add colour tints (like the orangy AGOC scope) by making it that colour
