i made a roof with about 500 brushes. it is a prefab that i made but when i add this prefab to my building an d then compile and so for forth witch it takes about 3 hours to do so. the roof will not show on the map. i have no idea why. any ideas?????????????? my map so far has 5420 entities. i dont know if that maks a difference but i am maxed on my static models....

Even tho the roof has 500 brushes, which is inefficient and just plain wrong for a lot of reasons, it should still compile and show in game.

You have to keep the number of triangles (patches) and faces (brushes) to a minimum.

Its just the roof thats a prefab? Make sure its made from just detail brushes, that should speed up the compile. (Everything except geometry that blocks visibility, and is therefore used in a portal, should be detail anyway).

As for it not showing in game.....i can't think of any reason that would stop it showing up there if it shows up in the editor, off the top of my head

I know this happened to me in cod2 radiant and it had to do with overlapping brushes or how different brushes joined up with each other.

Did you get any warnings in the compile?

no warnings at all. the map will compile without the roof in about 3 hours. but the funny part is when i add the roof it compiles in about 1hour and a half. thatts weird. and still it wont compile.ive spent 3 months on this map and if it i cant complete it. i will probally give up because ive spent so many hours and headaches to do this ,not to menchen my wife yellen at me for weeks now. because ive been on this dam computer more than anything else..............

Something very similar was happening to me. My problem was that I had overlapping brushes. It appears that overlapping brushes will work ok to an extent, once you exceed whatever this limit is, things go funny.

ill go back and check all my brushes on that prefab and ill try it again and see what happens
