Well, apparently this saga continues...

At 8:30am, I was served with some papers that at first glance appear geared towards shutting down modsonline.com.

I am on my way to see my lawyer about what exactly my options are and I will most definitely be keeping you all informed of this as it unfolds...

First Stryder leaving, now all this donkey crap, first, I'll repeat my rant from the other topic here:
Jesus Christ, I happen to have missed a the latest few episodes of Modsonair, but it's commonly known that some hosts of the show like to discuss the Jack Thompson topic. And Jack Thompson must face that he is the topic of many game-related conversations trough not only the internet but also in real life. If certain people then, in these conversations, express THEIR OPINION about the topic (Jack Thompson) than how the hell can that be wrong? I don't think stryder should leave actually, Jack has taken the first step against the internet community, and now I think the whole Internet Community (not only Modsonline.com) should fight back. Come on, we're talking about the freedom to express your own honest opinion. I know Jack could take legal steps against the Modsonair hosts, but aren't you guys willing to take the challenge and fight evil Jack, in name of the Internet!? I think we should contact every website that is game-related, and let them know that Jack is trying to shut down freedom of speech. Kotaku for instance, should be contacted. Seriously, what is this evil man trying to do? People get violent thanks to videogames, it's more and more beginning to get a situation where (at least for me) people get violent thanks to Jack Thompson. Jack, I challenge you to sue me. For expressing that I think you're an ignorant ass. No, this is not the opinion of Modsonline.com, Modsonair, or any of the people that visits this sites. It's the opinion of me, Jonezy93, xfire Jonezy93, msn tim-dejong@live.nl You're really pee-peeing off a lot of gamers, and I think you should've just stopped when you could. I personally think, we should fight evil Jack, because he has gone to far this time!

Wow, that's a long post. See what happens when you leave this place for a few weeks?! They won't take down modsonline.com, he can't because we can express our opinion in any way we want to! I'll stop now, but I really think we should take the fight.

Internet vs Jack Thompson, a new chapter in the Saga begins...."

Now, I seriously think that this is going too far. I can't see what sort of reason they (I assume Jack?) have to shut down Modsonline. I've been coming here for quite some time now, and I've always admired the way that the 'bosses' of this site run it. Foyle, you always helped out (as well as many other members here) when I had a mapping/scripting problem, I learned all those things here. Now are they seriously going to try and take that away!? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one whose mapping career got a big boost thanks to this site, and I'm sure there are alot (me 2) willing to keep this site alive. Look at this place! It's MODDING HEAVEN for Gods sake... I could go on and on, like you Foyle, sometimes do in Modsonair... I'll say one thing now: If they shut down this place, (which in my eyes is impossible) I salute all the members of this site that have made it a helluva experience for me.

Know this Foyleman (and other site staff) I support you, and I thank you for what you have done all these years [sad]

Good luck!
jonezy93...

[Edit] Could I contact Kotaku about this? Just send them a link to the first Lawyers do suck topic and this one? I think we should spread the word over the internet, letting people know that Jack does come after them when they give their opinion about him.

Right so let me get this clear in head..

Someone on this website expressed there own opinion about an individual person.

That person heard this comment and took it as a personal attack against a cause that this person is fighting for.

That person then took action against this ''attack'' in a form of trying to shut down the website and sue the person who made the comment?

So if i was to understand the situation right, then i would think that you do NOT have a right to express your opinion or discuss it with others around you unless you want legal problems? In my opinion you cannot control the way people think, if you are going to try to take away a source of entertainment which is more and more popular now than before, do you honestly think that people will sit there and allow it?

You will always get someone to fight for a cause, attempting to shut down a popular mod site will cause a sort of 'web war'. There are limits and to go this far is crossing that line.

Now i spend many hours looking around this site, out of all website i probably visit this probably about 60% of my total surfing.. I enjoy modding games, as well as playing them.

Im not a violent person and have no intension to recreate anything i see in a game.. To be honest what idea could you possible get from this website.. ''ohh i gonna hit you with a big caulk brush, but not before i stick a damage trigger with a value of 1000 to it.. grrr''

Cheers

DO NOT LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THIS!

So, one person go to a TV station (for free), participate in a forum,
express his opinion about one moron, then the TV station got closed up?

Is that it?

F**CK YOU!

Hmmmm I am not a regular on here but, I think as soon as more info is available, considering this is a public forum maybe we should also get involved and start pushing back. That particular person, whom I do not know who is being referenced, we should start calling his office, writing letters, e-mails, etc etc etc & start plugging up his lines , mail, phone lines etc & make it known that "WE" as the community will not let this go unheard. I am looking for the link that may be the beginning of what that IDIOT is crying about!

Unfortunatly this particular person is the one responsible for banning games, trying to shut down games site and had himself convinced that video games are the cause of violence. Check him out here

If i'm right in saying that at present time Modsonline has roughly 91840 members (memberslist>20 people per page times #pages), then I vote that if sh*t hits the fan we all donate £1 or $1 to modsonline in order to save it, thats close to 92000 $/&/£. But I think theres probably a lot les regulars than that...

saying that, I just pictured foyle (and his oversized headset- from the podcast) using that cash to skip away to Hawaii.... [lol]

Anyway,
Hang in there! [sad]

Ok, some how I've missed these goings on, but firstly I'm disgusted by the flagrant abuse of so called authority on display by this Jack Thompson.

Thankfully I am not subjected to the moronic behavior of this man, due to the fact that I herald from the UK, (though I fear it is only a matter of time, the UK already a nanny state that concern's itself with the trivial and ignores the real issues.)

Basically, this man seems to be on a power rush crusade, and the fact that a Google search of Jack Thompson gives around 1,730,000 results, most of which seem to be less than complimentary towards this character, leads me to believe that he must be handing out legal threats like it was candy.

Needless to say that any threat on this immensely useful and productive site and hub for a community that expands everyday will be received in the manner that befits it.
The loyal followers of Modsonline.com who have much to owe, and have also contributed so much to this fine resource site will surely band together and fight the idiocy of this empty threat that has no real grounds on which to be made.

Now, I do not wish this to be seen as an attack on Jack Thompson's character, or indeed his righteous cause. I have read numerous reports and studies involving Computer Game Violence, many for University purposes. I will admit that in some cases people of low self restraint or are easily impressionable can show signs of being influenced by computer games. However this is a very small percent of video game players that range from 3yr old to 83yr old, and even then it is no worse then someone who is subjected to other media such as Cartoons, Films, Music and Literature.

At the end of the day, the internet is a place for free speech, and policing of the internet is implausible, impractical and unattainable. Threatening to close down Modsonline.com because of the personal opinions of a member is as ridiculous as a gambler sueing a casino for failing to prevent him from losing all his money.

Opinions are like ass-holes, everyone has one, the problem is some people can't see past there own ass-hole to acknowledge others opinions.
